Google Wave – Are You Ready?
Hey gang,
I’ve got something to show you today that I think will completely revolutionize they way we communicate online, and I mean that seriously.
If you have not seen this yet, be prepared to be blown away.
Harry McCracken at technologizer.com says the following:
A new service which – well, it’s one of the most ambitious services that Google or anyone else has cooked up? How ambitious? Project leader Lars Rasmussen says that it began with the question “What might e-mail look like if it were invented today?” … It:
* Is a service that looks like a rich piece of client software;
* Behaves like sophisticated threaded e-mail;
* Acts like IM when multiple collaborators are online at once.
* Is one of the most real-time collaborative tools I’ve ever seen.
* Has revision marking and versioning for workgroup editing.
* Has instant photo sharing.
* Allows its functionality to be embedded into blogs and social networks;
* Can serve as a container for OpenSocial applications;
* Has what Google says is a revolutionary spell checker;
* Comes in mobile flavors for Android and iPhone;
* Is an open-source project that lets developers write both Wave extensions … and their own servers.more
This is something you need to take a serious look at right now, before it slips your mind because this is going to create some huge new waves, pardon the pun.
Here is a 2 hour developer preview Google I/O where they take you through Wave:
Notice I said “developer”?
Yes, it is Open Source
Let me know your thoughts on this thing, the possibilities seem endless.

Will head over there first thing tomorrow (its 1am here so I better not go watch 2 hours of video at this point)
Hi Scot
I am really tempted to look as it sounds awesome but like Mikael, I feel I’ll be caught over there and forget I have to sleep. Its an early start tomorrow for me. I play all day sunday so i need a good night’s rest
Thanks for the heads up on this. I’ll look at getting in on the get go
Also might want to take a look at this: http://gigaom.com/2009/05/29/why-we-are-cautious-about-google’s-wave/
Om makes some interesting points…
I bookmarked the link but I have company coming in the door for dinner. Will definately jump on this later tonight.
As always a good “heads up” so Thanks again from a loyal subscriber.
I don’t think it a big deal but makes sense when trying to integrate into different platforms (I just feel it is another application amongst many more to come).
I agree with Kal there are many types of this application in the works as we speak. I know because we are developing one as well.
It looks appealing but I do wonder as some do if this is kind of like Bloatware. You know, like Microsoft is famous for doing which is too many bells and whistles and hard to ever use half of them while slowing down your system.
Dear Scot,
Thanks for the tip. I went to the google wave site as you had recomended, but the streaming was taking so long ,that I lost my patient. However I have aggreed to participate in their beta prog.
Thanks for your updates.
regards
Biman
When its google we’d better watch out. With their type of technological and financial back up they sure gonna make it BIG. Heading over to take a look at it.
Really cool new tool…. But thinking how IM world is going to benefit with this?
Right now I don’t see any use of it in IM world. May be it can replace tweeter or forums …. any other guess ….
Thanks Scot for informing us with this new technology.
It’s going to be an amazing tools when finally released, but we will have to be very careful with google when it comes to things like this.
All the same it is a nice thing to behold and likely to be very useful tools for effective communication.
Thank you very much for first hand information on this.
hmmm, I wonder. Do you really like to share your emails with others via chat like tools?
This is going to be quite complicated not to get messed up
